Logan Franklin Photographs

That's me at approximately 15 years old (about 1951). I had a York barbell set and devoured the information in Strength & Health magazine.

By age 34 (1970), I had stopped weight training, but kenpo karate workouts kept me in shape.

The clock is relentless as we skip ahead to May, 2002, about 7 years after resuming weight training.

Now, I'm 65 (May, 2002).

Several visitors to the site asked for some recent photos. Maybe they wonder if the old guy's fallen apart and using old photos (I'm reading between the lines). Probably they're just being polite.

Who took the pictures? I did. I hung a black background sheet and stood beneath a skylight. I put my 35 mm. camera on a tripod, focused, pushed the timer switch, and stepped in front of the lens. Why black and white photographs? I'm a blue eyed, fair-skinned type, and you really need tanned skin for color photos. I'm not courting skin cancer, and I've already got my share of wrinkles. I know, there's some stuff you can rub on for an instant tan. I didn't bother. I like black and white photographs, anyway. I think it fits the Gray Iron theme.

My childhood heroes included bodybuilding champions, Mr. America, Mr. Universe, etc. -- and I love the weights -- but I never entered a bodybuilding contest nor had any desire to do it. It wasn't my way. I'm mimicking poses I used to see in the old muscle magazines that I read as a kid. I'm in pretty good shape for an ancient. However, the pictures make me look bigger than I am. Good camera angles and lighting, I guess. And maybe I'm a better photographer than I'm giving myself credit for.
